At Plant Where You Can’t, our durable aluminium planter boxes are made to last, but that’s just the beginning. Behind every planter, there’s a series of small, thoughtful choices that help us reduce waste. When we designed the Bench Top Baby and The Provider, we thought about how we could make a product that would last, reduce waste, and help your garden and the planet thrive together. So, here’s a peek into our eco-friendly journey and the thoughtful details that make it possible.
Built to last with aluminium:
First, we chose powder-coated aluminium for our products. Why? Because aluminium’s durability means it can stand up to the elements and provide you with a lifetime of growing without breaking down. Unlike materials that degrade over time, aluminium can take a beating and continue to look fabulous. Plus, aluminium is very recyclable. The durability of our products ensures that recycling isn’t an issue for many years to come, but it is an important factor in the material choice. The conscious choice of materials ensure we aren’t aimlessly adding products to the landfill.
Honeycomb Paper: The packaging that disappears (in the best way)
Packaging can often be the sneaky villain of waste, but we’re here to turn that story around! Instead of plastic fillers and non-biodegradable materials, we wrap The Provider in honeycomb paper that’s fully compostable in about 120 days. This paper provides padding for protection and a sustainable alternative to bubble wrap. Once your planter is ready to fill with soil, simply cut the paper up and put into The Provider with your soil. It’ll biodegrade and return to the soil, helping new plants grow.
Eco-Friendly watering:
Water is at the heart of every garden, and we were determined to provide a sustainable misting system to support your plants. We use eco tube, which is UV stabilised and the tube itself is made from part recycled polymers with close to zero waste manufacturing practices. These tubes help your plants get the right amount of water efficiently – meaning less wasted water and healthier plants! Water conservation is key, especially for those growing in smaller spaces where a little goes a long way. It’s one more way we’re looking out for your plants and the planet
Branding from laser cut-offs:
Now, for the finishing touch – ever noticed the Plant Where You Can’t logo on our planters? Those little logos aren’t just for show; they’re actually made from off-cuts during the laser-cutting process. Instead of discarding the offcuts from the products, we’ve turned them into branding! Each logo detail is a tiny reminder of our commitment to reduce waste and repurpose materials. This way, nothing goes unused, and you get a lovely decorative element!
Reusing offcuts in the drainage system:
For our Bench Top Baby, which brings the garden to your kitchen counter, we repurpose materials yet again. The runners under the drain tray come from off-cuts of The Provider’s cover frame. Similarly, The Providers drainage tray is supported by offcuts from The Providers Stand. It’s a win-win – we minimize waste and ensure our products have an effective water management system. By turning off-cuts into runners, we ensure that every piece has a purpose and stays in circulation rather than heading to the landfill.
Our commitment to keep growing green
Our mission at Plant Where You Can’t is to make gardening available, sustainable, and fun regardless of space and lifestyle. By choosing durable materials, using eco-friendly irrigation, repurposing our laser off-cuts, and opting for compostable packaging, we’re dedicated to reducing our footprint while helping you create a little green sanctuary at home. We’re excited to continue this journey, finding new ways to be innovative while looking after the planet. So unwrap, plant, and compost away – every little action makes a difference.
